250 Gallons of Water

(These pics were the day AFTER the flood, when it was pretty much dried out)

Sunday night at work, an AC condenser pipe burst on our floor, and flooded the 5th floor, then poured down on the 4th and 3rd floors, and even out the windows. Ironic that Hurricane Ike was pounding the coast of Texas around the same time.

Our section of the 5th floor was flooded with about an inch of water. All the carpets were soaked, and anything on the ground was drenched. Since we don't have a lot of storage space, many people lost work and magazines and personal items. I came in Monday morning and got what I could off the floor. The AC was out and they were already mopping up what they could, so we had the day off.

This morning we came in to find they had moved all the filing cabinets and installed huge dryer fans. They had also ripped out all the lower parts of the walls. They have to keep mold from forming, and thus, relocated all of us on the south west section of the 5th floor.

We were all moved down to a conference room on the 4th floor. They hooked up our computers on one big table. I am sitting right next to my boss. My Virgo sensibilities were in overload today. I had to create order out of chaos. By the end of the day we had gotten a few things into place.

Supposedly we will be like this for the next 1 to 2 weeks.

See, never wish for some excitement, or if you do, be specific. I had recently been bemoaning the fact that I was bored. Well, not anymore.

We were spared the heavier damage the lower floors got. They literally were rained on and many lost all that was on their desks, in cabinets, and their computers. Not a pretty picture.

So, I am grateful we didn't lose too much. And I am grateful that my boss got a clean bill of health at the Dr. today.

Certainly makes me grateful for dry floors and functioning AC.
