Extra Days

Thinking back to my LA Days, I spent most of my first year there doing "extra" work. It was a fun way to get to know how movies and tv shows were done. "Less is more" is what I was told on the set of a straight-to-video movie starring John Travolta.
Sometimes it was fun, other times it was LONG DAYS waiting. "Hurry up and wait" as we'd say.
I made some good friends doing that, such as Steve Somers, Greg "Briar" Harris, Tracy Sommers, and my friend Kevin McCann.
The other night I was channel surfing and came upon a "Murder, She Wrote" episode I'd filmed with Angela Lansbury, Emma Samms, Barry Newman, and Ronnie Edwards. It was filmed at Saddle Peak Lodge in the hills above Malibu and it was supposed to be winter. It was HOT and rainy! But fun. I marveled at how Angela Lansbury seemed to whisper in her scenes, but when they ran, I saw she was real and understated compared to some who were a bit over the top.
The scenes I got seen in the most were the last 5 minutes of "The 'Burbs" with Tom Hanks. Look for me riding around on a bike in a light blue jacket.
You can also see me in "Roadhouse" with Patrick Swayze, and "Ghostbusters 2" in the courtroom scene, before I was replaced with a stuntman.
It was fun and I learned a lot.

Here are a few pics from those days.
This is me as Thurston Howell III and Steve Somers as Robbie Douglas at Kevin McCann's party where everyone dressed as their favorite TV characters.

On the set of SPOONER that is Robert Urich fixing his hair. We had to run around the track and have him wave at us.

Steve Somers, Marcy, and Greg/Briar on the set of a print ad for some office product.

Scott Bakula on the set of "Quantum Leap" at a mansion in Pasadena. He sang "Volare" and I got to stand in front of him and NOT swoon. He was a very nice guy. He held my water for me when I had a trayful of food at lunch. AFTER I had spilled my own water.
